Nothin' Else

Has your faith ever been shaken? Mine has. It happened again just a few months back. My daughter, my precious girl, a gift from God I didn’t deserve has been struggling with her own faith, her own way forward in this crazy life. She has had thoughts of harming herself and even worse. She even had to go to a live-in facility for a week for her mental health. My faith meter went way down I’m sad to say. I was in despair, doubt and I became numb as a result. Didn’t pray as much, sure as heck didn’t sing. My emotions were in control and like a tsunami they tossed me, took me under so I couldn’t breathe and pounded me against unforeseen objects with such powerful force that I thought I wouldn’t survive. But God met me there too.
God is greater than our worst fears or nightmares.
I’ve recently been memorizing the song “Nothing Else” by Forest Frank & Thomas Rhett. I sing it over and over. That is how we beat our emotions. We remind ourselves of the promises of God and his statutes day and night, when we come and when we go, when we walk along the road (or drive), when we lie down and when we wake. Read Deuteronomy chapter 6 (special emphasis on verses 5-9. A charge to the people of God to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and strength.)
The verse Forest sings that comes to mind is this,
“….This life is always tryin’ to get me in a rush (In a rush).
Keep movin’ quicker and one day you’ll be enough (Alright).
But if I do that I won’t stop and smell the roses
and end up bein’ soulless
and hope nobody notices.
I’m getting sick of endless scrolling on my cellphone.
I wanna get back to the place I had myself known.
The enemy could tryta kill, rob and destroy
But one thing he cannot take is my Joy…..”
Remember His promises. Write them on the tablet of your hearts. Talk about them Day and Night, when you come and when you go. Discuss them with your children and anyone you meet. God comforts the broken hearted and gives strength to the powerless. He is our ever-present help in trouble in our times of need. Will you trust Him again today? Stand firm in your faith!!
'10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. ‘
~ Ephesians 6:10-18
Our church always blesses the people at the end of services by saying: We love you, God loves you, make it a great Day!!
